ASTM B338 Titanium Tube Specification

ASTM B338 is the standard specification for seamless and welded titanium and titanium-alloy tubes for surface condensers, evaporators and heat exchangers.

Seamless vs Welded

Welded tube is economical for large volumes; seamless is preferred for higher pressure or critical service. Both are covered by B338.

Common Grades

• Grade 2 — the standard for condenser tubing
• Grade 7, 12, 16 — enhanced crevice-corrosion resistance
• Grade 9 (Ti-3Al-2.5V) — higher strength
