"Pipe" and "tube" are often used loosely, but in titanium procurement they mean different things and follow different standards.
Titanium Pipe
- Sized by Nominal Pipe Size (NPS) and schedule (wall)
- Built for fluid/gas transport and pressure
- Standards: ASTM B337 / B861 (seamless) / B862 (welded)
Titanium Tube
- Sized by exact outside diameter and wall thickness
- Tighter dimensional tolerances
- Used for heat exchangers, instrumentation, structures
- Standard: ASTM B338
How to Choose
If you're moving fluid through a piping system, order pipe by NPS and schedule. If you need precise OD/wall for a heat exchanger or mechanical part, order tube.
Materials
Both are commonly Grade 2 for corrosion service, with Grade 7/9/12 for higher demands.
